Stellenbosch Deli

This Stellenbosch deli needed a tidy display set that could carry specials at the window and keep service-counter menus clear through a busy trade day. We supplied hanging window menus and counter frames sized for fast insert changes, plus print-ready layouts that matched the deli’s regular menu rhythm.

A deli counter that had to read fast

The brief came from a deli in Stellenbosch where the front window, the service counter and the till point all needed to work together. Staff wanted menu changes to be painless, with no loose tape, no curling paper and no long interruption while the lunch queue moved past. The site had a polished interior with glass, timber and light wall colour, so the display hardware had to look neat, not heavy.

We were asked to shape a display set for daily specials, take-away options and a shorter counter menu that could be read from a short distance. The job also needed a cleaner handover for staff, because menu updates were being handled often and the team needed a repeatable system for inserts and replacements.

What the site needed to hold

The deli wanted two display zones in the same visual language. One set sat at the window to catch people walking past, while the second set sat on the counter for customers waiting to order. That meant balancing visibility, weather exposure at the glass, and enough durability for regular handling inside the store.

  • A4 snap frames for smaller specials and price panels
  • A3 snap frames for the main menu board at eye level
  • Hanging window mounting for clear street-side visibility
  • Counter-facing frames for service point menus
  • Anti-glare covers for brighter daylight near the glass
  • Print inserts sized for easy swapping without tools

The client also wanted the layout to stay legible when a page changed. That pushed the design towards clear type, balanced spacing and simple menu groupings rather than dense blocks of text.

Frames, inserts and a window set that stayed tidy

We supplied aluminium snap menu frames with profile edges that open and close cleanly for print changes. The display set included A4 and A3 formats, because different parts of the menu needed different levels of prominence. Smaller inserts handled specials and add-ons, while the larger panel carried the main offer with stronger visual weight.

For the window section, we prepared hanging fittings that kept the frames aligned against the glass. The anti-glare covers reduced the washed-out look that can happen in bright afternoon light, which matters in Cape Town where sun on the front elevation can make a menu harder to read. The counter set used the same family of frames so the deli did not end up with mixed hardware that looked patched together.

We also handled poster insert printing for the larger pieces and laminated menu prints for the items that would be handled more often. The print sizes were chosen around standard A4 and A3 menu templates, which made later updates simpler for staff who needed to swap pages without trimming anything onsite.

Print work that kept the layout steady

The deli brief asked for a restrained look, with the menu wording doing most of the talking. We did the menu typesetting, menu proofing and colour matching so the printed inserts stayed consistent across both the window set and the counter set. The darker text had to remain sharp on lighter backgrounds, while item groupings needed enough breathing room to stop the board from feeling crowded.

Because the deli offered a mix of fresh items and takeaway options, we built the layout around sections that could be updated without a full reprint every time. Short run printing was used where a limited batch made sense, and the inserts were finished for easy removal and replacement. That kept the system practical for a site with changing specials and a compact front-of-house footprint.

  • Menu templates prepared in A4 and A3 sizes
  • Proofed copy checked before printing and finishing
  • Laminated inserts for frequent handling
  • Courier packaging prepared for safe transport

Courier delivery and handover across the country

The finished set was packaged for courier delivery from Paarden Eiland to Stellenbosch, with protection around the frames and print pieces so the edges stayed neat in transit. The deli team needed a set that could move through South Africa if the format ever had to be repeated at another branch or counter location, so we kept the pack structure straightforward and labelled.

The same framing system can be used in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Johannesburg, Durban or Gqeberha, and the insert sizes remain practical for branches that want a common menu style across different locations. For a deli environment, that matters because the menu language often needs one visual standard across several counters, even when the item mix changes from site to site.

A practical result on the floor

After installation, the display read more cleanly from the street and from the queue point. The window menus gave passers-by a quick view of the offer, while the counter frames kept the order point orderly and easy to update. Staff no longer had to manage loose sheets or awkward fixes when a special changed.

The result was a cleaner front-of-house rhythm. The frames kept the presentation tight, the inserts were easy to swap, and the deli could update menus without disturbing service. For a busy Stellenbosch food counter, that balance between appearance and everyday use was the main win.

If we were repeating the job on a similar deli counter, we would keep the same split between window and service-point displays. That layout gave the team enough flexibility for specials, while still keeping the printed menu set calm and readable.
